While attending Century 21’s Global Conference in New Orleans this past March, I was not only completely energized by the incredibly informative break out sessions and guest speakers, but I also had a very humbling experience by visiting the city of New Orleans.
A few of us took a trip to the lower 9th Ward where the levies collapsed.

The mood was still somber, but with a glimpse of hope. There are still abandoned homes, empty lots with only cement steps remaining, half burnt homes open to the elements and, in the middle of it all, were gorgeous newly built homes.

These are self sustained, green homes constructed with the financial support of Brad Pitt. The architecture was extraordinary and quite eye opening. Equipped with tank less water heaters, solar panels, open air second floors and many more green features, these homes are anchored on cement pillars and built to withstand should they be burdened with another disaster. It was amazing to see in person rather than on TV and still can bring tears to your eyes.
On a happier note, we didn’t see any live alligators, but we sure tasted some! The food was awesome and Century 21 made sure we had true New Orleans cuisine with crawfish pasta and etouffee, local oysters, beignets, Louisiana pork, Po-Boys and so much more. Of course, I can’t forget to mention the Hurricanes!
I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend a fantastic conference, while also visiting a city full of history.
