Day 20: Two festive and delicious recipes!

Today we are offering a two-for….two great recipes in one day! With Christmas right around the corner (boy, this month has flown by), it time to start figuring out what to cook for the big day. We have found a couple of yummy recipes (with the help of foodnetwork.com) that will hopefully lessen the stress of what to cook…

The first recipe is for the simple yet fun Pepperment Bark:

 Ingredients

  • Crushed candy canes, to yield 1 cup
  • 2 pounds white chocolate
  • Peppermint flavorings, optional
  • Directions

Place candy canes in a plastic bag and hammer into 1/4-inch chunks or smaller. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler. Combine candy cane chunks with chocolate (add peppermint flavoring at this point if desired.) Pour mixture onto a cookie sheet layered with parchment or waxed paper and place in the refrigerator for 45 minutes or until firm. Remove from cookie sheet and break into pieces (like peanut brittle.)

Next we have German Chocolate Cake with Coconut Pecan Frosting:

    Ingredients

    For the Cake:
  • 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus more for the pans
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups firmly packed light muscovado sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups strong brewed black coffee, at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • For the full recipe visit www.foodnetwork.com

Whether you are spending Christmas in the Wilmington, NC area or traveling to be with family, we hope you have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend!

    Congratulations to Terri Parrish!
