7 Professional Home Staging Tips for Sellers
If you’re currently selling your home or contemplating a move, you’ve probably given some thought to staging your home. There are lots of tips on the internet, but we’ve got a few main home staging tips to help you make your house more attractive and appealing to buyers.
The goal of any home seller is to make the buyer want to move in. If the buyer can’t picture themselves living in your house, they’ll move on. So how exactly do you get a buyer to want to make your house their home?
- Get them inside. The first thing a buyer sees is your front yard. Make sure it is well-kept and alive. No dead plants allowed.
- Declutter. Then declutter some more. The room may look bare to you, but to a buyer, it creates spaciousness. Keeping clutter inside and outside your home will make your home seem smaller.
- Depersonalize the space. Remove family photos and momentos. This will help the buyer to visualize themselves living in your house.
- Balance hard and soft surfaces. If you’re living room has carpet and a cushy sofa, balance the space with a hard coffee table. If your bedroom has hardwood floors and wooden furniture, balance the space with a soft rug.
- Work in ones or threes. Odd numbers are more pleasing to the eye, so if you put a few decorations on a sofa table, put either one or three. More than three and you’ll start to create a cluttered feel.
- Decide from the doorway. A buyer will get their first impression of a room from the doorway, so once you declutter and stage, view the room from the doorway. If you make some adjustments, go back to the doorway to consider.
- Keep it immaculately clean. It’s certainly hard to do (we know!), but keeping your house clean will draw buyers in. An unkept place makes buyers think, “If they live like this, what other things do they not take care of that I can’t see?”
